Tooth extractions are sometimes necessary, and Dr. Gomes-Moore will review the best options for treatment with you. She will take the time to educate you on the process before your procedure, as well as teach you about what to expect from your extraction. If it is a very complicated extraction, she may conclude that an oral surgeon would be able to perform the surgical tooth extraction faster. In such an instance, she will refer you to one of Stencil Dental's partners for the best experience.
The Tooth Extraction Procedure
During any extraction procedure, the dental team will use local anesthetic and ask the patient if he or she can feel anything. We want every extraction to be painless! Once our dentist is certain that the area is sufficiently numb, she will begin the dental extraction procedure.
During the tooth extraction, Dr. Gomes-Moore will gently rock your tooth back and forth to loosen it from your jaw bone and ligaments. If the tooth is impacted, Dr. Gomes-Moore will first have to cut away the gum and bone tissue that cover the tooth. Occasionally, a tooth will have to be removed in pieces if it is too hard to otherwise pull.
After the tooth has been removed, Dr. Gomes-Moore will take the time to discuss with you all the options you have for replacing it. Often, the tooth is replaced with a bridge or dental implant.
Post-Operations Recovery
Depending on the complexity of the extraction, some people feel fine the next day. For more complicated extractions, patients will need up to a week to heal. Patients can experience some discomfort in the area that can be helped with medication. Some post-op bleeding and swelling may occur. We will provide post-op instructions for each patient to minimize discomfort and promote faster healing.
How Much is a Tooth Removal?
Depending on whether a patient has dental coverage or not, the cost can vary. Dental insurance will often determine cost for any tooth removal. Many insurances will often cover a portion of the total cost of your procedure. We also offer multiple affordable tooth extraction options through our in-house insurance and pay-per-service patient options.
